  • Dragon's 1st Year Bday

I was asked to bake a cake for a very adorable 1-year old to celebrate his birthday :)

His name is Dragon, and I was thinking of doing something along the theme of dragonfly.

In the end, my husband helped me come up with the idea of having a cake pond, surrounded by bug cupcakes.

Lemon cheesecake with agar agar topping and strawberry fish.

My husband did the strawberry fish and aren't they just simply amazing???? I was totally doubtful when he told me he was going to attempt to make fish out of strawberries. But looking at it now, it looks almost natural. The fish actually look like they are swimming!

    The whole set-up:

Who knew bugs could look so tasty ? ;)

The bday boy and his parents:

All-in-all I think the party went well. I hope everyone was happy with the dessert *cross fingers*

  • What do you get when you cross a cookie with a brownie?

    A BROOKIE!!!

I was browsing Bakerella's awesome blog and something she posted caught my eye that I had to make it right away!

    Yes, I was THAT excited.

Prepared to be fascinated (ok I don't mean to sound so dramatic, but I was pretty excited about this!)

    Subject 1: Cookie Dough

    Subject 2: Brownies

    A marriage of sorts?

Rolled up and ready to be baked

    Fresh out of the oven

Now these cookies are so big that i could only bake 2 at a time in my mini oven!

    Don't believe me?

    Check it out:

    Pretty freakin big eh??

    Now....the best part......

A very gooey brownie center..... yums!

    Give it a shot!

  • I think I'm done with Buttercream... for a while.

So I've been taking a course in buttercream decorating and I finally had my last class yesterday.

As great as its been, I am relieved that I won't have to deal with buttercream for a while. It really is a messy messy affair and makes for the most troublesome of clean-ups!

But no pain no gain  huh ;)

For my final cake, I baked a white chocolate mud cake with vanilla buttercream.

The roses are made from decorater's icing. I colored some blue.

They took me a while to do and I'm not 100% happy with them as yet. But it's a learning process and as they say, practice makes perfect!

Congrats to our class for completing Course 1. Good jobs ladies and beautiful cakes :)

  • Well Hello there Kitty ;)

So if you haven't gone to Bakerella's website by now, you most certainly should! She knows how to make anything sweet look good :)

I had to attend a kid's bday party today and the theme was Hello Kitty.

So I decided to do a "cake pop" Hello Kitty aka Bakerella, but it didn't exactly go as plan.

To cut a long story short, a lack of time and practice made me scrap the "pop" idea and just go with the traditional cake. But of course I added two mini Hello Kitty cake pops/balls to decorate the cake.

Chocolate cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

The Hello Kitty is made with the same cake, cream cheese, coating with candy melts, and edible marker

At the party, the cake went fast, but somehow people didn't touch the Hello Kitties!

    So guess who did? ;)

    Meeeeeeeeeoooooooooow!
